If you recently discovered that you love tea, and you want to try some different varieties, you are probably wondering about where you should be buying your tea. But what we think you should be asking is whether you need to get tea bags, or whether you should go with loose leaf tea. We think that if you are serious about tea, you are going to want to go with the loose leaf variety. In fact, we would say that it is not even a comparison. Unless there is no way for you to get loose leaf tea to your home, either by purchasing online or at a store, you should be going in this direction.
Whether we are talking about price, convenience or any other factor, loose leaf wins every time. If you know where to look, you can get a good amount of your favorite tea in loose leaf form and you can get it for cheap. And then you can use that tea for many years, especially if you are storing it in an air tight container. And in terms of convenience, you just need a strainer or some type of tea filter, and the process is the same as tea bags. Add the filter (or the bag) to the boiling water, and take it out when the process is done.
In terms of taste, loose leaf tea is a world apart. Why? Because you are getting the whole tea leaves, in comparison to the crushed up tea dust that you see in tea bags. The flavor profiles are completely different. While bagged tea is fine if you are not too concerned about tea, it is not a good idea if you truly care about the taste and the enjoyment of having a cup of tea. If you love tea, go loose leaf!
